Study program
Compulsory Courses
The modules in the compulsory courses are designed to provide all students with a common foundation of knowledge for the subsequent advanced lectures, regardless of the different disciplines in which they completed their bachelor’s degree.
Specializations
In Spezializations must be completed 30 LP (5 modules). The modules in the specialization area cover topics from the central research areas of ZITI Chip Design and Emerging Computing at an advanced level. Please refer to the module handbook for the available modules and their allocation. Students are free to choose from all modules in the specialization area. However, we recommend focusing on one area of specialization, as the broad knowledge this provides will make it easier to write the master’s thesis. If students specialize in one of the areas of specialization, this will be noted in their degree documents, provided that they have completed 5 modules from the chosen area of specialization.
Free Courses
The aim of the Free Courses is to expand specialist knowledge and skills or to gain an insight into other areas of research. Courses can be freely selected from the Heidelberg University course list, provided that the institution offering the course agrees. Bachelor’s level modules are permitted, but should not repeat existing knowledge. The modules selected in the elective area must meet the following conditions:
- they are graded,
- the total number of credit points is at least 12 CP,
- they expand existing specialist knowledge, for example they do not repeat modules that have already been completed, for example, from a previous bachelor’s degree program. In case of doubt, the examination board will decide on approval. The application must be submitted before attending the module. It is also possible to choose modules from the MScTI in the elective area.
Soft Skills
In the area of Soft Skills 10 LP must be acquired.Following courses can be chosen:
- Modules from the degree program that are marked as soft skills,
- Modules that are designated as soft skills courses in HeiCo by the Faculty of Engineering,
- Two introductory modules from the Entrepreneurship Certificate at Heidelberg University (6 LP),
- Courses from the HeiSkills program that are classified as soft skills courses,
- Language courses up to a maximum of 6 LP. Additional courses can be recognized by the examination board upon application.
Study Project
This module introduces students to the work of a selected research group. The topic is usually at an introduction level, so that the necessary background knowledge and tools can be learned within the scope of the module. The topic may—but does not have to—be an introduction to the topic of the master’s thesis. The term paper is completed with a report. Since the module is worth 15 credits, the workload corresponds to approximately 50% of the total workload for the third semester, which is a considerable amount.
