Admission to the Master’s program in Computer Engineering is open to applicants who have completed a Bachelor of Science, Master’s, state examination, diploma, or equivalent degree in a program lasting at least six semesters in one of the following fields:

• computer science or
• mathematics, natural sciences, or engineering with a provable proportion of courses teaching basic knowledge of computer science (such as from the compulsory computer science modules of a typical Bachelor’s degree program in computer science), a total of 24 credit points in computer science is recommended.

There are no fixed grade requirements for admission to the program. Instead, a subject-specific aptitude test is administered. In addition to the final grade from the bachelor’s program, the aptitude test takes into account program-specific prior knowledge, practical experience, and achievements and qualifications obtained outside of university. Yes. This program is for students who, for personal reasons, are unable to study full-time. Such reasons may include full-time employment, raising a child, caring for a relative, or chronic illness. The content and courses of the part-time program are identical to those of the full-time program. However, the program is spread out over a longer period of time, with the standard period of study extended to four semesters. In the part-time program, the regular semesters are only counted as half-semesters, so that two half-semesters, winter term and summer term, make up one subject semester. The individual modules remain unchanged. Yes. However, the course must correspond as closely as possible to an MScTI course in terms of content, scope, and level. Recognition is granted upon application (with a module description of the course to be recognized, see link for form) to the examination board. In the area of ‘minor subjects’, recognition of modules already completed is generally not possible: The minor subject offers a valuable opportunity to take advantage of the wide range of courses offered at Heidelberg University to ‘think outside the box’ and expand your knowledge and horizons beyond the status quo. Therefore, recognition of courses completed prior to the MScTI program is generally not appropriate in this case.

No. You can choose any combination of courses from the specialization area. However, it makes more sense to complete a sufficient number of courses from one of the two specializations (Emerging Computing or Chip Design) so that you have enough knowledge for your master’s thesis. If you complete a sufficient number of modules from one specialization, this will be certified in your transcript.

No. Even in the few cases where the work is done in collaboration with a company, payment is not allowed for reasons of fairness to other students.

Due to different module sizes, it may happen that you have achieved slightly more than the required number of credits in one area and therefore more than 120 credits in total. Only the graded modules with their full credits are used to calculate the overall grade, so no credits are ‘reduced’. The overall grade is the sum of all these modules weighted by their respective LP, divided by the sum of the LP of all these modules.

Language courses, regardless of whether they were taken at the university or abroad, can only be recognized in the area of interdisciplinary skills. A maximum of 6 LP from language courses will be recognized in total.
