Application periods

Interested students can apply for the winter semester by September 30 of each year and for the summer semester by March 30 of each year.

Admission requirements

The university has its own admission restrictions for the master’s program in computer engineering. Admission to the master’s program in computer engineering is open to applicants who have completed a bachelor’s degree, master’s degree, state examination, diploma, or equivalent degree in a program lasting at least six semesters in one of the following fields:

  • computer science or
  • mathematics, natural sciences or engineering with a certified portion of courses teaching basic knowledge of computer science (such as the compulsory computer science modules of a typical bachelor’s degree program in computer science). The computer science portion must comprise at least 24 credit points.

An admissions committee decides on admission and subject-specific suitability for the program. Subject-specific suitability for the program is determined on the basis of the following criteria:

  • Overall grade in the final academic examination in the bachelor’s degree program (see above)
  • Special course-specific prior education, practical activities, or non-university achievements and qualifications (with evidence), for example
    • Vocational trainings and/or professional experience in the fields of electronics, computer science, or mechanics.
    • Continuing education certificates in the fields of electronics or computer science.
    • Successful participation in computer science or technology-related scientific conferences (e.g. student conference of the German Informatics Society), hackathons, etc.
    • Awards in computer science or technology-related competitions (e.g., InformatiCup).
    • Implementation of independent technology or computer science projects with corresponding documentation.

Applicants who have not gained their university entrance qualification in Germany and do not have a German-language university degree must also provide proof of German language proficiency at DSH-2 level (C1 according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages).

Applicants with a degree outside of computer science (mathematics, natural sciences, or engineering) must also submit an overview of the computer science content included in their bachelor’s degree. The document Application for Recognition of Academic Achievements can be used as a template.
